Tips For Success

  • Different brands of puff pastry may be different sizes so you may need to adjust the number of squares you cut out.
  • Brushing the pastry with milk or egg is optional but will help it seal and will give the tops a little shine. You can also use water to seal them.
  • Avoid overfilling with the jam or it may ooze out while cooking.
  • Allow the pastries to cool several minutes before serving as the jam filling will be hot.

Variations

  • Sweet Fillings – Try other flavors of jam, Nutella, pie filling, pudding, etc.
  • Savory Fillings – Cooked meat such as sausage, bacon or ham, cooked eggs, cheese, etc.
  • Toppings – Sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar, cinnamon, or vanilla sugar.

Budget-Friendly Tips

  • Buy and Freeze – Puff pastry is often easier to find around the holidays. Buy and store in the freezer for later use.
  • Make Homemade Jam –  Making homemade jam is economical and so tasty!

Make Ahead and Storage

  • Prep Ahead – These breakfast puff pastries can be prepped the night before and stored in the fridge overnight.
  • Store – Store in an airtight container and eat within 2-3 days. Reheat them in the air fryer or oven. Do not microwave or they will become chewy.
  • Freeze – Freezing the cooked pastries is not recommended.

FAQs

Is Puff Pastry Vegan?

It depends. Many store bought puff pastry brands use vegetable oil instead of butter but not always. It’s important to read the label if this is important to you.

What Can I Substitute For Puff Pastry?

If you have trouble finding puff pastry or it is out of your budget you can use refrigerated crescent roll dough instead.

It tastes soooooo good.
