Air Fryer Chicken and Cabbage

Tender seasoned chicken and soft charred cabbage.

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • garlic salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • large cabbage shredded
  • 1 pound (454g) boneless skinless chicken breast cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning and/or smoked paprika optional


  • Preheat the Air Fryer to 380 degrees F / 190 degrees C.
  • Mix together garlic salt, onion powder and oil in a small mixing bowl.
  • Shred the cabbage and place it in a mixing bowl. Add half of the seasoned oil and mix until well coated.
  • Cube the chicken and add it to a separate mixing bowl. Add the remaining seasoned oil and mix to coat.
  • Add the chicken into the air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time.
  • Push the chicken to one side of the basket and add the shredded cabbage, making sure to keep them separated.
  • Cook for 6-9 minutes, depending on how charred you prefer your cabbage. Stir the cabbage a couple of times during cooking.
  • Keep an eye on the chicken as the cabbage cooks. Check with a thermometer and if needed, remove and transfer to a plate to avoid overcooking.


  • Cube the chicken into even bite-sized pieces. This helps with even cooking.
  • Divide the seasoning and oil into two bowls to season the chicken and the cabbage separately. 
  • Add Italian seasoning and smoked paprika to further season the dish. 
  • If desired, you can cut cabbage into wedges instead of shredding. 
  • Keep the chicken and the cabbage separate in the air fryer. 
  • Check the temperature of the chicken with a meat thermometer. When the internal chicken has reached 165 degrees F or 74 degrees C, remove it to a plate. Continue to cook the cabbage as needed. 
  • Cook the cabbage for 6 - 8 minutes until it has reached the desired tenderness and has the desired amount of char. 
  • Storage - keep in an airtight container inside the fridge for up to 4 days.
