Easy Christmas Tree Appetizer
This spinach dip Christmas tree is a favorite of mine and makes a great centerpiece and appetizer. And better still, like this Christmas Tree cheese board recipe, it is easier to make than anyone would think.
Especially since I start with store-bought puff pasty dough. And while I mostly make the dip myself, I have on occasion also used store-bought dip too. The best part is when everyone settles in to pull apart those garlicky Christmas tree spinach dip breadsticks. I am getting aaaaaaaaall the food feels, peeps.
Why Make It
- It’s a fun and festive appetizer everyone can tuck into.
- It is budget friendly and easy to assemble, hand it over to the teens.
- Customize it to your heart’s content with various dips and flavors.
Ingredient Notes
- Puff pastry – Look for puff pastry in the frozen section. These normally come in packs of two and you will need to thaw them out first.
- Frozen spinach – This starts with frozen spinach which needs to be thawed and then squeezed dry before using. If not well dried, it will dilute the flavors of the dip.
- Cream cheese – Make sure this is softened so it blends easier.
- More cheese – Feel free to start with store-bought pre-shredded and pre-grated cheese.

How To Make It
Get complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F / 190 degrees C / gas mark 5 and line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix together spinach, cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl until well combined.
- Roll out the first puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface, cut it into a large triangle, and place it on the prepared baking sheet. This will form the base of the Christmas tree.
- Spread the spinach dip evenly over the puff pastry triangle, making sure to leave the edges uncovered.
- Now grab the second puff pastry sheet, roll it out, and place it on top of the spinach dip covered base. Then trim the edges to match the bottom piece.
- Then carefully and using a sharp knife, cut horizontal slits (about every inch or so) on both sides of the triangle, leaving about an inch in the center intact as the tree trunk. The horizontal cuts will form the branches.
- Starting at the base of the tree, twist the strips a few times to create spiral tree branches. You may only get one twist on the smaller top branches.
- Mix melted butter with garlic powder, brush over the Christmas tree bread appetizer, and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Serve warm.
Tips And Variations
- It is easiest to use a pizza cutter to cut the Christmas tree shape from the dough, but you can also use a sharp knife.
- For an even easier life, grab some store bought pre-made spinach dip and use that.
- You can make this with other cheesy-flavored dips, too.
Storage
- Make ahead – assemble the spinach dip Christmas tree and refrigerate it uncooked
