Red, white and blue ice cubes in a glass with some sprite

Red White and Blue Ice cubes are a must for hot summer days and can be used to chill pretty much everything. For the best visual effect, serve these in a clear liquid like sparkling water or sprite. As colorful as these Red, White And Blue Mini Pavlovas.

You only need some gatorade to make these incredibly colorful patriotic ice cubes that are so easy to make that the kids can make them unsupervised. Serve these up for Memorial Day, 4th of July, on all the hot summer days, at pool parties, festive occasions, and more.

Why Make This Recipe

  • Simple – it has 1 ingredient and requires 5 minutes of prep.
  • Leftovers – A great way to use up leftover gatorade.
  • Change it up – you can customize these with various juices or colors
  • Colorful – it’s loved by kids, big and small.
  • Budget friendly – totally affordable to make.

Ingredient Notes

  • Gatorade – This is made simply with gatorade. You need the three different colors, which is this case are red fruit punch gatorade, frost glacier cherry for the white layer and cool blue gatorade for the blue layer. And you can easily swap out for any type of similarly colored drinks.

How To Make Red White And Blue Ice Cubes

Get full ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.

  • Set out three ice cube trays.
  • Pour the fruit punch gatorade in one ice cube tray, frost glacier cherry in the second tray, and cool blue gatorade in the final tray.
  • Freeze for at least four hours, preferable overnight before serving.
  • When you are ready to assemble the drinks, layer the different colored ice cubes in each glass and pour the sprite.

Tips For Success And Variations

  • You can make layered ice cubes – using one tray, fill one third of each ice cube section with the red gatorade, then freeze for 2 hours. Then pour on the white gatorade until they are two-thirds full and freeze for another 2 hours. Last, top the frozen cubes with the blue gatorade and freeze for another 2 hours.
  • Silicon ice cube trays make popping the cubes out out easier.
  • Feel free to combine different flavors to change up the flavor profile.
  • Vary the liquid – use lemonade, grape juice, pomegranate juice, strawberry juice etc instead of gatorade.
  • Amend to fit the occasion – make green, white and red ice cubes for Christmas, pink and yellow for Easter, orange and purple for Halloween, etc.
