Simple Ingredients and Other Swaps
I suggest choosing the best ingredients you can to get the very best flavor.
- Cream cheese. I prefer using full fat softened cream cheese. You can for sure use reduced fat cheese instead.
- Pumpkin purée. I use either store-bought or homemade purée depending on what I have to hand. Please do not use pumpkin pie filling for this.
- Sugar. I prefer the caramel sweetness added by brown sugar, but you can use other sugar for sure. Add more or less to taste.
- Spice. I like using homemade pumpkin pie spice but you can use your favorite store-bought version. Add a little more or a little less to your taste. Feel free to add some extra ground nutmeg or ground cinnamon if you prefer.
- Whipped topping. I love adding fluffy lightness with either cool whip or an off brand version. It all works well.

How To Make Pumpkin Dip
Grab all your ingredients and let’s make this treat. Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below
- Using a hand or stand mixer, whip together the softened cream cheese, pumpkin puree, brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice for about 5 minutes until creamy. You will need to beat for double the time if mixing by hand.
- Then carefully and gently fold in the whipped topping until well combined. Avoid over mixing or you will lose the airiness of the topping.
- Transfer the dip into a serving bowl and serve straight away with your preferred dippers. Eat within the first 2 days for optimal freshness.

Bintu’s Tips And Variations
- If you have time, let the awesome pumpkin pie dip chill in the fridge for at least an hour, to allow the flavors to develop even more.
- Bring your cream cheese to room temperature for easier mixing. Make sure to whip the cream cheese very well, so no bits of cheese remain in the dip before adding in the whipped topping.
- I love sprinkling on crushed pumpkin cookies, Oreos, gingersnap cookies, pretzels, pumpkin seeds or nuts for extra crunch and texture.
- We are fans of using different toppings to suit different occasions. Try pumpkin or leaf shaped sprinkles for autumn harvest, halloween shaped sprinkles, sparkles for New Year’s, etc – because pumpkin everything. I also love drizzling on caramel sauce or chocolate sauce before serving.

Storage
- Make ahead. I tend to whip it up and refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 days. I simply let it come to room temperature before serving.
- Storage. Pop any leftover dip (erm is that a thing) in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Let it come to room temp before serving, and if it feels a bit too thick, just stir in a little milk. And remember, it’s a one-time, 3-day deal, so don’t double-store.
- Freezing – Avoid freezing the dip, as the texture may change upon thawing.

Dipper Ideas and Serving Suggestions
I tend to go more with the dessert type options for this dip, but my kiddoes love a savory twist too. For fruits, we go with apple slices and pear slices.
For cookies we like gingersnaps, chocolate chip cookies, animal crackers, Ladyfinger cookies, gingerbread man cookies, Oreos, candy corn cookies, Nilla wafers etc. For a more savory twist, we like pretzels and breadsticks.
