Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Add fresh orange juice, milk, protein powder and vanilla extract to a blender and blend until fully combined and smooth.
- Pour the mix into an empty Ninja Creami container pint, cover, and freeze it on a level surface for 24 hours.
- Remove from the freezer and take off the lid. Place it into your Ninja Creami machine following the manufacturer’s instructions and process using the Lite Ice Cream setting.
- When done, open it and give it a quick stir. If needed, add a little splash of milk or orange juice and use the re-spin function 1-2 times until you reach your desired consistency.
Recipe Tips and Variations
- Adding the liquids and then the protein powder to the blender will help make sure the mixture is smooth.
- In order to process correctly, it’s important that the mixture is frozen completely, so be sure to freeze for the full 24 hours.
- Use the re-spin function and add a bit more liquid if your ice cream isn’t creamy enough.
- You can add 2-3 tablespoons of sweetener or use maple syrup or honey if you prefer.
- Feel free to swap the orange juice for mango, pineapple, or strawberry, or use a combination.
- Add some orange zest or even lemon zest for extra citrus flavor.
- Replace some or all of the milk with coconut milk or other dairy-free milk.
- Freezing without the lid seems to prevent a peak from forming on the frozen base. However, my freezer is typically packed full, so this is not always possible. If a peak does form, I simply shave it off to level it before processing.
- Pro-tip for ice cream lovers! Prep and freeze several different recipes at once so you always have a frozen pint ready to process.
Prep and Storage
- Prep Ahead – You’ll need to prepare the base and allow it to freeze a full 24 hours before processing.
- Storage – This ice cream can be stored in a sealed pint container inside the freezer for up to one month.
FAQs
If your Ninja Creami ice cream is icy, it could be due to a few factors, such as the ice cream base not having enough fat content or enough sugar. It’s also possible that the frozen base was too solid to process correctly.
It is important to wait 24 hours for the Ninja Creami ice cream base to freeze. Otherwise, you will not get the right ice cream texture when you process it.
Keep Ninja Creami in freezer for several weeks, up to one month. Then simply re-spin using the same setting the recipe called for the first time and enjoy!
