Best Jerk Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are the perfect appetizer meat because you don’t even need a knife and a fork to eat them! Make a big ol’ batch of Caribbean jerk chicken wings to serve on game day or at any gathering. Everyone loves them and it’s easy to make enough for everyone to sample.

But chicken wings aren’t just for game day! Add a few side dishes and these wings are perfect as a main dish for dinner any night of the week.

A little smoky and a little spicy, Jamaican jerk seasoning is a spice mix that is full of flavor. The wings take a little bit to cook through, but since the prep work is so simple, you won’t mind the extra oven time. It gives you plenty of time to make a few sides or relax while dinner cooks.

  • Simple – Just season and bake.
  • Perfect for A Crowd – Cook up a double or triple batch of these wings for a simple and tasty game day or party snack.

  • Chicken Wings – Use whole wings or cut them into wingettes and drumettes.

How To Bake Jerk Chicken Wings

  1. In a large bowl, combine chicken wings with the oil and seasonings. Toss to coat well.
  2. Place on a baking tray with a wire rack (optional) and bake at 425F / 218C for 40-50 minutes.
  3. Flip the wings halfway through cooking.

How To Make Grilled Jerk Chicken Wings

  2. Preheat the grill to 400F / 204C.
  3. Place the wings on the grill and cook for 40-50 minutes, turning them every 10-15 minutes to cook evenly.

Tips For Success

  • Dry the chicken wings with paper towels before adding the oil and seasoning.
  • Use a wire rack to cook the wings on so they turn out nice and crispy.
  • Turn wings halfway through cooking if baking or every 10 minutes if grilling.
  • If you are gluten free, be sure to check the seasoning package carefully to make sure it doesn’t contain any gluten.

Variations

  • Amp Up the Flavor – Jerk seasoning is incredibly flavorful but you can kick it up even more by adding green onions, garlic, or jalapeno peppers to the marinade.
  • Add Cilantro and Lime – Cilantro and lime juice adds a bright flavor to jerk chicken. Sprinkle some chopped cilantro over the wings and give them a squeeze of fresh lime juice before serving.
  • Serve with Dip – A cool and creamy dip like ranch or blue cheese dressing tastes great with jerk chicken.

Budget-Friendly Tips

  • Purchase Whole Wings – Whole chicken wings are generally less expensive than wingettes and drumettes. Cut off the wingtips and then separate the wingette and drumette if you prefer this to cooking whole wings.
  • Save the Wing Tips – If you buy whole wings and cut off the wingtips, toss them in a freezer bag until you get a bunch and use them to make chicken stock.
  • Purchase in Bulk – Purchase chicken in bulk or on sale and store it in the freezer until you need it.
  • Make it A Meal – Add a few sides and serve these wings as a meal rather than as an appetizer.

Make Ahead And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – Mix the wings with the oil and seasoning and refrigerate for up to 24 hours to let the flavors marinate the chicken.
  • Store – Leftovers should be stored in the fridge and should be consumed within 4 days.
  • Freeze – Freeze marinated chicken wings for easy use later on by following these steps;
    • Mix the chicken, oil and jerk seasoning.
    • Place into freezer bags.
    • Store in the freezer for 3-6 months.
    • Place in the fridge overnight to defrost.
    • Cook as directed.

FAQs

How To Get Crispy Baked Chicken Wing?

If you want crispy wings every time, we’ve got three tips for you;

Tip #1: Moisture is the number one reason for soggy chicken wings. Bring the chicken wings to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking and thoroughly dry the skin with paper towels before adding the oil and seasonings.

Tip #2: Lay the chicken wings on a wire rack on a baking sheet to cook them, leaving space between each wing. This allows hot air to circulate around the wings, helping to crisp them up.

Tip #3: Turn the wings over halfway through cooking time.
