Why Make This Recipe
- Quick and easy to make – With a few simple ingredients and just 5 minutes you can have this dessert or snack done, even with last-minute arrangements.
- Customizable – You can change out the sprinkles and pair this dip with different dippers and fruit depending on the occasion. We’ve themed this one for the 4th of July so you can add it to your table as an appetizer or dessert.
- Make ahead of time – You can make it ahead of time and then take it out when needed. It’s a no-mess, no-fuss dessert option.
Ingredient Notes
- Cream Cheese – This is the base for the dip. Feel free to use a reduced-fat cream cheese.
- Whipped Topping – I have used Cool Whip. This ingredient adds lightness and fluffiness to the dip. Whipped cream can also be used but the texture will be a bit different.
- Milk – Use any milk you have on hand. This makes the dip have the best creamy consistency.
- White Cake Mix – This is the main ingredient for this dip and gives it that lovely cake batter flavor. Heat up the cake mix before you use it so you don’t get sick. Yellow cake mix or a Funfetti cake mix works well too.
- Sprinkles – We’ve used red, white, and blue sprinkles to add a festive touch to the dip, so it’s perfect for Memorial Day and 4th of July celebrations. Use whatever color sprinkles you want based on the event or season. You can omit them entirely.
- Dippers – We love to add strawberries, pineapple chunks, apple slices, cookies, pretzels, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, or graham crackers. You can really use anything you love.

How To Make This Funfetti Dip Recipe
Get full ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Microwave the cake mix in 30-second intervals until it reaches 160 degrees F / 71 degrees C, or spread it on a baking sheet and put it in a 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C oven for about 5 minutes. Next, combine the cooled cake mix, cream cheese, and milk. Blend until it’s nice and creamy.
- Fold in the whipped topping carefully. Try not to overmix it as this can cause the dip to deflate.
- Then, gently fold the red, white, and blue sprinkles into the mixture, if using.
- Place the dip into a serving bowl and top with additional sprinkles. Serve with your favorite dippers.
Recipe Tips and Variations
- Let the cake mix cool – An important step is heating the cake mix so it is safe to eat. Allow it to cool before adding it to the recipe.
- Room temperature cream cheese – Cream cheese is easier to use when it has been brought to room temperature.
- Use a mixer – This helps you to get a light and airy texture.
- Avoid overmixing – Fold the sprinkles in after mixing in the whipped topping. The sprinkles will then retain their color and shape.
- Chill the dip – I usually place it in the fridge for about an hour, this makes the dip even better as all the flavors combine together.
- Use a variety of dippers – We like to add fruit, cookies, pretzels, or graham crackers but feel free to add your favorites.
Storage
- Prep Ahead – I leave out my cream cheese so it can come to room temperature. You can also thaw your whipped topping.
- Store – Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Freeze – I don’t recommend freezing this dessert dip.
