How To Make Popcorn In Air Fryer
Get full ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below.
- Preheat Air Fryer to 400F / 200C.
- Mix together popcorn kernels and olive oil in a mixing bowl.
- If your air fryer basket has larger holes that the popcorn kernels will fall through then make a foil pouch that fits the basket with the sides rolled up. Then add the popcorn kernels on top and spread out in a single layer.
- If the basket holes are smaller, then add the kernels straight into the basket and spread into a single layer.
- Cook for 6-8 minutes, shaking a couple of times during cooking. When you shake only open the basket slightly so that the popping kernels don’t escape
- Remove popcorn when done, discard any un-popped kernels, season, and serve.
Air fryer temperatures will vary depending on the type and model, so use the cook time as a guide only and adjust as needed.
Tips For Success
- Preheat Air Fryer – You want the Air Fryer hot, so that the popcorn can start popping quickly. Otherwise you will end up with burnt kernels.
- Hold off the seasoning – If you avoid seasoning or salting the popcorn as you cook it, you get more flexibility with flavorings at the end.
- Use the right amount of popcorn – Stick with about a quarter cup of kernels per session, as having too much will result in too many un-popped kernels. If you have a big air fryer with more surface area, you can increase it to a third of a cup.
- Shake – Shake a couple of times during cooking. Make sure to only slightly open the basket for shaking so the popping corn does not escape.
- Timings – to avoid having burnt popcorn, I tend to stop popping about 6-7 minutes in.
Topping Ideas
- Melted butter and some salt.
- Melted butter or white chocolate and some sprinkles <= we love this!
- Sugar and some salt <= kids favorite.
- Garlic powder and grated Parmesan.
- Spice like curry powder, smoked paprika, etc.
Storage
- Store – while this is best served fresh, you can store in an airtight container for up to a day.
